For a company’s annual client meeting in Cournon-d’Auvergne, near Clermont-Ferrand, Talents & Productions provided an aerial silks act performed on white fabric. The act was presented in two parts: a solo earlier in the programme, then a duo that closed the evening. The event took place in a performance venue in front of 300 guests.
Rather than placing a single act in the running order, the aerial silks performance was split into two moments. Aerial silks is performed on long lengths of fabric suspended from the ceiling. The artist climbs the fabric, wraps it around the body to hold positions in the air, and releases it to move from one figure to the next.
The first appearance was a solo, focused on one aerialist and the vertical lines of the white silks. The second brought two performers into the air together and served as the closing moment of the evening, so the act framed the event rather than appearing once and disappearing.
The choice to end with a duo was not only artistic. The client wanted the evening to close on the values it shares with its customers: progressing together, moving forward and elegance. An aerial duo expresses these ideas through the performance itself. Neither artist can complete the figures alone, each relies on the other’s timing and support, and the pair rises and moves through the choreography as one unit.
The white fabric supported the same intention. It gives a clean, uncluttered image that reads clearly from every seat in a theatre-style room and keeps the attention on the movement and on the relationship between the two performers.
A performance venue is often well suited to an aerial act, as it generally offers the ceiling height and the seated, stage-facing audience this type of performance needs.
