The Business Visits and Events Partnership (BVEP) has welcomed the establishment of a Ministerial Support Initiative to improve bidding prospects for events.
Under the scheme, event organisers can ask VisitEngland for government help, which was named as a priority in BVEP’s 2011 Subvention and Bid Support Practices report as part of a review to he industry win more international business.
Now the BVEP has praised both VisitEngland and outgoing tourism minister Hugh Robertson for seeing the initiative through to establishment.
VisitEngland led on the introduction of the initiative and has established a working process alongside the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
BVEP chair Michael Hirst said: “We’re delighted that VisitEngland has taken the lead on this important initiative and has set up a system with DCMS that demonstrates our desire to win and welcome major international conventions to destinations throughout the country.”
