The wedding held in Florence between Aradhana Lohia, daughter of Indian plastics magnate Aloke Lohia (one of the richest men in the world), and Indian nobleman Kevin Sharma trumped all expectations in terms of pomp, splendour and also the economic benefits it brought to the city of Florence.
The numbers speak volumes: for the three days of the celebrations, there were 700 guests from all over the world, 300 staff, mostly from India, 100 chefs from all corners of the planet (many with Michelin stars to their name), 3 hotels hired exclusively for family and guests, plus another 2 for staff, 35 hairdressers, 60 florists, 200 vehicles driving through the city centre and a traffic jam at Florence airport, which was so busy with incoming private super jets that many had to be parked to other aiports. The overall budget seems to have been around EUR 8 million.
The mega event involved four agencies, and could hardly have done otherwise: an Israeli agency was responsible for production, a Rome-based agency for technical production, while an Indian agency developed the concept and the programme.
