Vienna to host thousands-strong renal congress

In June 2016 the Austria Center Vienna will be the venue for one of Europe’s largest annual congresses. The 53rd European Renal Association – European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA-EDTA) Congress – will be attended by delegates counted in thousands. The President of the Congress will be Professor Dr Gert Mayer, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at the Medical University Innsbruck, a specialist in nephrology and hypertension.   A company based in Prague will again play a large part in the organisation of the Congress. It is C-IN, a member of IAPCO. As the official housing agent, C-IN will provide services that include visa management, airport transfers, provision of hospitality staff along with complete hotel administration. There is no doubt that the US is the top country for meetings and events. A lot of that has to do with the sheer volume of the US economy as well as the large number of industry associations that reside in the US. However you may be surprised to learn that not one US city (or North American city for that matter) ranked in the top 10 city destinations. Certainly an opportunity, and some say challenge, for many Convention and Visitors Bureaus (CVB) around the US.   For a world meeting planner, Europe remains the most popular international location for meetings and conferences. There’s also been an increase for meetings in Asia as well as places like Dubai.   The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) has put together a list of the top cities for meetings in 2012. Vienna Sets New Record for Overnight Stays

Good news from Austria this week, where Vienna has set a new record for overnight stays, and continues to lead the world as a convention capital when the city hosted to 195 international meetings in 2012. The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) affirmed its status as number one convention city for the eighth time in a row.   From January to June of 2013, about 5.7 million overnight guests were registered, a full 3.1 percent more than during the same period in 2012.   With 276,000 overnights, the U.S. was still Vienna’s most important overseas market. CIBTM 2013 May Be Biggest Show to Date

We hear that this fall’s CIBTM, which is set to take place from September 2 – 4 at the China National Convention Centre (CNCC) in Beijing, may be the largest edition of the show to date.   Hosted Buyer applications have doubled, (compared to this time last year) as many top level meetings buyers with proven purchasing power sign up to place their business with both regional and international participating exhibitors.   CIBTM has also witnessed a notable increase in the amount of Corporate and Association Trade Visitors who have signed up to attend the show. Jeffrey Xu, CIBTM Project Manager, Reed Travel Exhibitions said that the majority of the exhibitors want to meet with associations and corporates, “as this is where a lot of the big business in the meetings industry lies.   “The quality of trade visitor registrations this year has been very promising, and we are delighted to see such a rise in the the number of Associations and Corporates. Vienna wins two major association congresses

The European Renal Association and the European College of Sport Science will both hold their annual congresses in Vienna in 2016.   Both events combined will attract around 12,500 delegates, worth £18.2m to the city, and will take place at the Austria Center.   The European Renal Association – European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA-EDTA) is the umbrella organisation of all the European national medical associations for kidney diseases. With around 10,000 delegates, the association’s annual congress is the largest in this field in Europe, and the second largest worldwide after the congress of the American Society of Nephrology. The event will take place from May 21-24 2016.   The annual congress of the European College of Sport Science (ECSS) is also the largest in its field in Europe.
