American Express Forecasts 2014 Meetings Trends

According to the American Express Meetings & Events 2014 Global Meetings Forecast, following two years of modest budget and activity increases, flat or slight declines in meetings spend per organization are expected across all regions heading into 2014.  Industry activity appears likely to stabilize due to a rise in meetings-related policies designed to ensure meetings comply with company guidelines and deliver against strategic objectives. Across all regions, meeting organizers will likely continue to face challenges as they strive to achieve more with flat or decreasing budgets expected, compared to previous years. In North America, nearly half of planners surveyed expect a slight increase (+1.5 percent overall for the region) in the number of meetings they expect in 2014. GBTA Report: Brazil to Surpass France, Italy & South Korea in Business Travel Spend

Brazil is expected to surpass South Korea, France and Italy in the business travel global spending rankings, according to the Global Business Travel Association, which just released its latest GBTA BTI Outlook report on Brazil as part of its semi-annual series.   Key highlights of the GBTA BTI include:   –          GBTA BTI has downgraded its near-term outlook for Brazilian business travel as forecasted in the first half of 2013 due to experienced volatility as a result of slower than expected, but still robust economic growth at home and abroad, particularly through June 2013.   –          However, Brazilian total business travel spending is forecasted to grow 6.3 percent in 2013 to $31.8 billion and another 12.6 percent in 2014 to $35.8 billion, as the global economy gains momentum along with Brazilian domestic demand.   –          The weaker external environment and the subsequent drop-off in trade with Europe and the U.S. have hit Brazilian international outbound business travel spending particularly hard. Here’s how key developing destinations such as China, Brazil, India are changing the landscape of the meetings industry.   What constitutes an “emerging market”? By definition, it is a country whose economy is just beginning to grow. But as it pertains to the meetings industry, the term can apply to any of the following: • A destination that is just discovering how meetings, incentives and exhibitions can further boost its economy; •  A country with a newly developed infrastructure (e.g., hotels, convention facilities, airports and destination management firms) for hosting events; and • A country that, due to its strong economy, is developing domestic meetings markets and even expanding its group business regionally and overseas. A number of nations have met some or all of these criteria in recent years, including China, India and Brazil, which leading hospitality companies such as Starwood Hotels and Resorts consider some of the fastest-growing hotel markets in the world. Inside The Globe Of Death

It’s a mix of sawdust and motorbike exhaust fumes.   At least that’s what filled my nostrils when I stepped into a 15ft-diameter, globe-shaped cage and had two 125cc scrambler bikes whiz around me at 60mph.   It was the most scared I have ever been as the machines looped the loop just feet above my head.   This terrifying display is drawing thousands of people across the UK to the famous Zippos Circus.   The show is also in cinemas — with Canadian supertsar Ryan Gosling playing a Globe Of Death motorcycle stuntman in bank heist drama The Place Beyond The Pines.   Only a few acts exist in the world, all from South America, and the original and best performers are The Lucius Team, named after Brazilian squad leader and act inventor Lucius Zafalon.   Read more: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/features/4897926/the-globe-of-death-nick-francis.html#ixzz2RCoiqvU0
