MICE Activity Pushes Riyadh Hotel Occupancy

Riyadh hotels have seen demand climbing during the first three months of the year, with occupancies increasing 6.3 percentage points over the same period last year, according to the latest HotStats survey of full-service, four and five star hotels by TRI Hospitality Consulting Middle East. “Riyadh hoteliers enjoyed a boost in demand during March, which helped drive an increase in first quarter occupancy levels to 66.7 percent,” said Peter Goddard, managing director of TRI Hospitality Consulting. “The corporate and conference markets continue to provide hotels with a solid base of demand driven by government spending on key infrastructure projects in the capital including the Riyadh Metro. 3709 projects of SR 430 billion value are being implemented in Riyadh

Riyadh Region Projects follow up Program related to The High Commission for the Development of Riyadh City revealed that more than 3709 projects are being implemented in Riyadh region at the present time which are distributed between Riyadh the capital and the 20 provinces related to it against a cost of SR 430 billion of which 208 projects serve the region in general. The program is working on monitoring and following up the projects of the region for forming a comprehensive vision about the developmental situation through the participation of 65 authorities concerned in the developmental projects of Riyadh Region. The commission has declared yesterday the Program Statistics for the first quarter of the current year 1435 Hijri in which Housing & Public Services Sector has been the biggest with 1132 projects which percentage is 33% of the total projects of the region, followed by Public utilities Sector with 956 projects which percentage is 28% of the total projects, the Educational Services Sector with 604 projects, Transports & Roads Sector with 576 projects, Health Services Sector with 121 projects and, finally, with Economic Development Sector with 75 projects. Saudi Arabia to build world’s biggest botanical gardens

Saudi Arabia is set to lay the foundation stone for the King Abdullah International Gardens (KAIG) in Riyadh this week, with plans for the facility set to include the world’s largest botanical gardens, it was reported. Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Prince Mansour Bin Miteb will perform the ceremony on Thursday at the site, which will be 2.5m square metres in size and will be one of the largest environment projects in the world, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported. The plans include two separate elements: a covered section and an open area. The covered facility, which will be the largest of its kind in the world, will include two giant botanical gardens which will be five times bigger than the world’s largest geodesic domes at the Eden Project in the UK, the Saudi Gazette reported. The outdoor area will include an open museum for plants, seeds bank and rocky garden, while the plans will also include research institutes, retail and hospitality outlets and a theatre, it added. 4th Riyadh Food Festival opens amid enthusiasm

After three consecutive successes, the fourth session of the Riyadh Food Festival kicks off today (Wednesday), with the participation of eight of the most important hotels in the Kingdom. The 12-day festival has been prepared by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities. Opening ceremonies will be attended by ambassadors and prominent figures in society. Participants will show the heritage of each country accompanied by special events prepared to give a distinctive atmosphere related to the cuisine choice. The hotel ceremony will start with the Courtyard Marriott Hotel at six o’clock in the evening. The hotel has chosen Turkish cuisine recruiting special chef and staff from Turkey.
