Middle East in demand at AIBTM 2014

Middle Eastern destinations and suppliers will be in strong demand at the Americas Incentive, Business Travel & Meetings Exhibition (AIBTM) in Orlando, Florida, in June. The three-day show, one of the primary meetings events in the whole of the Americas, is set to confirm the upswing in the region’s meetings business, with 3,000 expected visitors and more than 18,000 prescheduled appointments – a 20 percent increase on last year.     For the Middle East, the numbers represent the opportunity of securing an increasing share of business from North America. Post-show research in 2013 revealed that Hosted Buyers wanted a greater North African and Middle Eastern exhibitor presence at AIBTM 2014, with Egypt, the UAE, Jordan, Qatar and Morocco singled out as destinations of genuine interest. Middle East: Oman learns from global meetings experts

Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC), its venue manager AEG Ogden and Omran (the national tourism development body) hosted 15 global meetings specialists in the capital Muscat on April 6 and 7, 2014, to help develop sector-specific knowledge in the country. The two-day summit, held at the InterContinental Muscat, was organised in conjunction with the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), a meetings sector educator that represents more than 6,000 global industry leaders.       “The PCMA Oman Advisory Summit was the ideal platform to address key trends that will shape the future of the meetings and conventions industry in Oman,” said Trevor McCartney, General Manager, OCEC. “Its aim was to foster international relations, peertopeer knowledge exchange and connect the Omani community to a diversified group of global industry sectors. Middle East: STTIM to focus on skill development

The 2014 Saudi Travel and Tourism Investment Market (STTIM) continues to expand in its seventh year. It is already confirmed that this year’s event, which is being held at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre (RICEC) between March 30 and April 3, will have a 40 percent larger display area than 2013, helping to underline its status as one of the most important in the region’s travel and tourism sector.   This year’s event focuses on the development of the country’s local travel and tourism service suppliers, with a strong presence from Saudi Arabia’s provincial tourism councils, municipalities and various public departments linked with tourism infrastructure. “The main focus of STTIM 2014 will be the roll-out of a scientific programme concentrating on the development of the local tourism industry and the way those local companies can benefit from the broader events and trends in the kingdom’s travel and tourism sector,” said Tariq Al Essa, Business Tourism Project Manager at the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA).   Read More
