Kempinski Looks to Boost MICE Appeal; Will Launch New Brand Standards

As the upscale Kempinski hotel brand stretches beyond its origins in Europe and into more continents, its meetings and events division is developing ways to appeal to C-level international clients from a range of backgrounds. We spoke with Kristina Mees, Kempinski’s new corporate director of group sales, to see how the luxury brand was adapting to changing needs while maintaining its traditional style.     Mees, who took on her role in early July, has already launched initiatives to improve Kempinski’s offerings. The company recently completed a client survey that will help the team develop a level of standards that will remain consistent across the brand. The “Kempinski Group & Event Signature Standards” are set to roll out within the next six months, Mees said, and will focus on consistency in response time, site inspections and perks that can include anything from free rooms for planners to free Wi-Fi to free phone use. “Really, it’s a commitment from our side that all groups and events have certain standards when they’re held in a Kempinski hotel,” Mees said. Middle East in demand at AIBTM 2014

Middle Eastern destinations and suppliers will be in strong demand at the Americas Incentive, Business Travel & Meetings Exhibition (AIBTM) in Orlando, Florida, in June. The three-day show, one of the primary meetings events in the whole of the Americas, is set to confirm the upswing in the region’s meetings business, with 3,000 expected visitors and more than 18,000 prescheduled appointments – a 20 percent increase on last year.     For the Middle East, the numbers represent the opportunity of securing an increasing share of business from North America. Post-show research in 2013 revealed that Hosted Buyers wanted a greater North African and Middle Eastern exhibitor presence at AIBTM 2014, with Egypt, the UAE, Jordan, Qatar and Morocco singled out as destinations of genuine interest. Bahrain tourism banking on MICE

Kingdom’s strong economic recovery supported by a mammoth 116% hike in the number of exhibitions and conferences staged at BIECC   Bahrain’s tourism recovery is being buoyed by significant growth in its MICE sector as interest in the established Gulf destination piques once again. To further stimulate meetings business to Bahrain, the destination is ramping up its participation at the upcoming Gulf Incentives, Business, Travel and Meetings (GIBTM), which takes place at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from 24-26 March 2014.   In addition to participating at the event, Bahrain’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism is one of three key regional National Tourism Offices (NTOs) supporting a brand new post-show familiarisation trip programme.   The familiarisation trips are designed to provide GIBTM’s Hosted Buyers with an insight into business and meetings facilities offered in Bahrain and fellow programme launch partner destinations, Qatar and Jordan.   “Bahrain has recognised the important role the meetings industry will play in the country’s economic revitalisation and is investing in tried-and-tested sales and marketing vehicles such as GIBTM, which provides a platform for further boosting its MICE business,” said GIBTM Exhibition Manager Lois Hall.   Read more: http://www.incentivetravel.co.uk

IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific Kicks Off in Bangkok

The annual IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific expo kicked off in Bangkok on Tuesday, with 122 new exhibiting businesses at the showcase, many of them new companies coming in under the various CVB and national pavilions. New participating countries include Jordan, India and New Zealand.   Japan’s private MICE sector has also chosen IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific to stage a strong comeback to the MICE scene. To help position the destination to international buyers, event organizers have clustered all participating Japanese exhibitors on the show floor. Similarly, Singapore is represented by 15 private sector organisations, 10 of which have been clustered into a dedicated Singapore pavilion to promote the destination.   Taiwan has also doubled its booth space this year. The country is also coinciding their exclusive MEET TAIWAN networking event with IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific to maximize their reach to local buyers and media.   Read More
