Our entertainment company just had its in-house swimmers to perform at Le Meridien Beach Plaza Monte-Carlo. An insurance corporate company had a three days stay in Monaco and was looking for some kind of entertainment around the swimming pool. As our entertainment company is open late at night, we had a call of the client at around 6:30pm for a performance at 9:30pm! In only three hours we had the agreement signed and our swimmers in the swimming pool. Thanks to our client and of course the swimmers for this nice gig. The India meetings and events market is growing dramatically, according to a new market research study, with more than half of respondents reporting an increase in the number of events they have organised in the last 12 months. The India Meetings & Events Industry Survey (IMEIS) also found that 73 per cent of planners expecting the number of events they organise to increase in the coming year. The results of the interviews with 195 organisers from the corporate and association sectors, sponsored by CVent and Reed Travel Exhibitions, were analysed by The Right Solution on behalf of CAT Publications and presented to the industry at IBTM India in Chennai today. It found that average budgets for events have been increased by 11.6 per cent in the past 12 months – and organisers are predicting a further leap of 12 per cent in the coming year. The results reflect a wide range of activities, including 25 of respondents employing incentive travel either for their own organisations or on behalf of clients. According to statistics released by Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) today, Dubai’s hotels welcomed more than 5.8 million tourists in the first half of 2014 –the highest number of visitors ever achieved in the first six months of the year. In the first half of 2014, guest numbers across all establishments (hotels and hotel apartments) reached 5,828,449, an increase from the same period in 2013. Dubai’s top 10 tourism source markets remained unchanged bar slight changes in positioning. Birmingham is being showcased to Indian travel agents as a leading global visitor destination, as tourist numbers from the country increase. Visit Birmingham, the city’s official leisure tourism body, is currently running a six month training programme with Kuoni Academy for travel agents in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Amritsar. The sessions will raise awareness of Birmingham’s attractions; the city’s central location as a gateway to the rest of the UK; and its direct air links to Asia, following Air India’s commitment to increase its Birmingham-Delhi-Amritsar operation to a daily service from November. The initiative builds on the rising number of visits to Birmingham from India – with a 71 per cent increase last year, from 8,261 (2012) to 14,131 (2013). The city attracts more visitors from India than any other destination in England outside of London, and is ranked second in terms of total numbers of visitors from India in the last four years. Reed records increase in participants for 2014 event The confirmed participation of 100 national and global suppliers at IBTM India – to be held in Chennai this September – is highlighting the growth of the country’s business events market. A ‘Euromonitor Passport Flows Inbound and Outbound India’ report showed that in 2012, MICE and business travel accounted for 32 percent of all outbound travel, totalling 4.9 million trips. This is projected to increase by an estimated 62 percent in 2017. The GBTA Foundation, the education and research arm of the Global Business Travel Association, has released the results of its first GBTA BTI Outlook – India report, a semi-annual business travel outlook and overall economic analysis of India. The report includes the GBTA BTI; an index of business travel spending that distills market performance over a period of time. Key highlights of the report include: After a period of economic growth stuck below 5 percent along with soaring inflation, GBTA projects total business travel spending for India to grow 2.1 percent in 2014 to $24.9 billion USD. Kempinski Hotels is stepping up its hotel pipeline in India, announcing plans to open three new hotels in the region by 2020. According to the Economic Times, the new hotels are planned to be located in Kolkata, Mumbai and Kerala. Kempinski will operate all three of the properties, and the openings will bring Kempinski’s total operation in India to four properties. Additionally, the property in Kerala is planned to be a resort. Duncan O’Rourke, COO for Kempinski, told the Hindu Business line that the brand is still in talks for the final locations of the properties. “We plan to expand in India and believe that the country’s fundamentals offer strong growth opportunity,” O’Rourke said. “India, historically, has not had an influx of high-end international chains but they are starting to come.
