GBTA: 2014 U.S. Business Travel Spending Poised to Top $292 Billion

Business travel from the U.S. grew nearly 3 percent year-over-year, with company spending for business travelers increasing 7.6 percent to $71.2 billion during the first quarter of 2014. This indicates rising management confidence in the economic recovery, which tends to accompany increased travel budgets and fewer travel restrictions. Overall, U.S.-generated business travel spending is expected to increase 6.8 percent to $292.3 billion in 2014.     The Global Business Travel Association reaffirmed its positive forecast of the U.S. business travel industry with the release of the GBTA BTI Outlook – United States 2014 Q2. The report highlights the important relationship of business travel to overall U.S. economic growth.       “Business travel spending in the U.S. supports 7.1 million jobs,” Michael W. GBTA: India’s Travel Spend to Grow in 2015

The GBTA Foundation, the education and research arm of the Global Business Travel Association, has released the results of its first GBTA BTI Outlook – India report, a semi-annual business travel outlook and overall economic analysis of India. The report includes the GBTA BTI; an index of business travel spending that distills market performance over a period of time.   Key highlights of the report include: After a period of economic growth stuck below 5 percent along with soaring inflation, GBTA projects total business travel spending for India to grow 2.1 percent in 2014 to $24.9 billion USD. GBTA Combines Europe Conference with VDR’s Annual Meeting

The Global Business Travel Association‘s European conference will take place in Berlin, Germany from November 12-14 this year, in combination with the German business travel association Verband Deutsches Reisemanagement’s annual autumn meeting. The joint event is expected to be the largest European gathering of its kind, with over 700 delegates expected.   “Like GBTA, VDR is a corporate travel buyer led association for those in business travel,” Catherine McGavock (pictured right), director of operations for GBTA in Europe, told International Meetings Review about the combined conference. “It shares our aims and, as our partner association in Germany…it’s the obvious collaborator for our annual conference in Europe.” Both associations, she noted, favor events with “significant corporate travel buyer representation”—specifically, over 35 percent. “This is simply not available elsewhere in Europe on this scale,” she said.   Large-scale events like these can offer many benefits to attendees, McGavock continued, including networking opportunities and education from a wider range of industry professionals. “The Mind Market exhibition provides an efficient way to meet up with existing and to-source new suppliers,” she added.   Read More

GBTA Report: US Business Travel Spending to Increase in 2014

U.S. spending on international outbound business travel should jump a hefty 12.5 percent in 2014 to $36.7 billion, after just 1.8 percent growth in 2013 and only 0.8 percent expansion in 2012. This revival will be helped in particular by steady improvements in the Euro-zone, the U.S.’s largest trading partner. GBTA attracts 6,500 delegates

The Global Business Travel Association’s annual convention, held last week in San Diego, attracted 6,500 attendees to San Diego.   Attendees voted on whether to disband the association’s Allied Leadership Council, made up of suppliers, and for all Allied seats on the GBTA board of directors to be filled democratically.   Breakfast sessions and plenaries took place, including an address by Hillary Clinton, former US secretary of State, on Wednesday.   Clinton discussed White House meetings and the night in the situation room when the Navy Seals raided Osama bin Laden’s compound.   Source: http://www.citmagazine.com
