Germany: Five ‘Megatrends’ Shaping the Meetings & Conventions Industry

The German Convention Bureau has released findings from “Meetings and Conventions 2030: A Study of Megatrends Shaping our Industry.” Matthias Schultze, Managing Director of the German Convention Bureau, spoke at a press conference today at IMEX America. “The meetings industry is an economic driver for nations all over the world,” he said. “As an innovation leader, we envision this megatrends study helping players in the industry develop a future-oriented strategy that can generate business and economic success.” Here are the top five megatrends from the study: · Technology in work and life: More than 41.6 percent of respondents identified technology in work and life to be very influential in the future of the meetings business. New forms of knowledge transfer will influence all phases of event planning. Technology, globalization and sustainability continue to drive the meetings industry forward, according to the German Convention Bureau (GCB), which last week released the results of “Meetings and Conventions 2030,” a study of megatrends that are shaping global meetings and events. “The meetings industry is an economic driver for nations all over the world,” GCB Managing Director Matthias Schultze said last week at a press conference during IMEX America. “As an innovation leader, we envision this megatrends study helping players in the industry develop a future-oriented strategy that can generate business and economic success.” According to GCB’s research, the top five megatrends driving the global meetings industry are: • Technology: “More than 41.6 percent of respondents identified technology in work and life to be very influential in the future of the meetings business,” GCB said in a press release. “New forms of knowledge transfer will influence all phases of event planning. Hamburg Messe und Congress is the hotspot for a mega event from 5 to 9 July

The 96th Lions Clubs International Convention Hamburg 2013 is coming to Hamburg. Hamburg Messe und Congress (HMC) will be the hotspot for this mega event, as in April for the 28th Haspa Marathon Hamburg and in May for the 34th German Protestant Church Convention (Kirchentag 2013). The Lions are meeting in Germany for the first time, with expected attendance of more than 23,000 participants from over 130 countries. The Hamburg Fair site and CCH-Congress Center Hamburg will be at the centre of activities from 5 to 9 July, as the location for the Convention Service Center, the exhibition and the Lions Seminars. This is just the third time that the Lions Clubs International Convention is being held in Europe, following Nice in 1978 and Birmingham in 1989. “We are very proud to welcome the Lions to Hamburg for their International Convention,” says Bernd Aufderheide, President and CEO of HMC. “This is the biggest convention ever to be held in this city. Germany most popular country in the world

More than 26,000 people were surveyed internationally for the poll. They were asked to rate 16 countries and the European Union on whether their influence in the world was “mainly positive” or “mainly negative”. Germany came out top, with 59% rating it positively. Iran was once again the most negatively viewed. Global views of Europe’s biggest country have improved significantly in 2013, according to the poll. It was conducted for the BBC by GlobeScan and PIPA, who conducted face-to-face and telephone interviews with randomly selected people in 25 countries. Of those countries, 22 have been surveyed two years in a row, so become the tracking countries on which the average ratings are based. These averages exclude the target country’s rating of itself.
