Germany Update: Two New Convention Venues in Frankfurt & Berlin

As of this spring, meeting planners and delegates have two new large-scale conference venues in Germany. Take a look at the Kap Europa in Frankfurt and the CityCube in Berlin, both built close to existing expo centers. Kap Europa in Frankfurt is Uber Green Within a five-minute walk of the Messe Frankfurt in the central Europa district, Kap Europa has already earned a Gold level certification from The German Sustainable Building Council (a world-first). Sustainable elements include a concrete building core to keep AC use down, the use of regional woods to lessen emission footprints, controllable LED lighting (and harnessing natural light whenever possible), electricity generated from exclusively renewable sources and a 10,000-square-foot rooftop garden. The panoramic terrace also has top views of the Frankfurt skyline. The Kap Europa is right next door to exhibition grounds and the new Skyline Plaza shopping center. Dubai Boosts Business Appeal in Advance of 2020 Goals

Dubai’s Department of Commerce and Tourism Marketing (DTCM) was pleased with its recent showing at IMEX 2014. In a statement, the department called the Frankfurt show “a major success that will help expand the emirate’s growing business events and hospitality sectors.” Joining DTCM at the three-day tradeshow was a delegation comprised of over 50 local travel industry partners that included airlines, hotels and tour operators. Under Dubai’s new brand identity, DTCM highlighted the emirate’s capacity to host mega-incentive groups following the successful hosting of 14,500 delegates from Nu Skin Enterprises last month, and shared details of the recently launched Dubai Association Centre (DAC). Germany: Messe Frankfurt Sees Record Figures for 2013; Kap Europa to Open 2014

Financial year 2013 saw Messe Frankfurt make further advances from a strategic and financial perspective as well as expanding its market position among leading international players. The company is set to end the current financial year with a new sales record of approximately €543 million and profits of over €40 million. At the same time, the foundation is being laid for the coming years. ICCA & IMEX Report: International Associations Anticipate Strong Meetings Growth in 2014

A survey carried out by IMEX and ICCA among attendees from this year’s IMEX Association Day in Frankfurt indicates “significantly stronger future growth” for association meetings next year. The results from the latest annual survey into how major international association meetings are faring, continue to paint a very positive picture for this most resilient sector in the meetings industry, despite economic pressures. A full 92 international association hosted buyers who attended the recent IMEX trade show in Frankfurt responded to the survey, over 77 percent of whom organized or will organize meetings for more than 500 delegates in 2013, and more than 17 percent of whom organize events for over 5,000 delegates. Imex 2013 kicks off in Frankfurt

Imex 2013 kicked off in Frankfurt with more than 300 delegates attending a revamped Association Day. This year’s revamped programme was devised by association executives for association executives and set out to cover the most important issues facing association meetings planners, as well as their senior directors, and particularly to provide specific takeaways and practical action points. The Association Day was divided into three ‘education tracks’ – executive, operations and meetings. The meetings track was an ICCA session led by CEO Martin Sirk, who provided guidance on how to choose the right evaluation model according to the event. This session broke the group into round tables for discussion.
