Sustainability Seminars Honored by German UNESCO Commission

Seminars organized by the German Convention Bureau for sustainability advisors in the events sector have been awarded the title of Project of the UN Decade in “Education for Sustainable Development,” recognizing the GCB’s efforts to promote green meetings.   “Seminars for sustainability advisors demonstrate in an impressive way what future-oriented education could look like,” said Professor Gerhard de Haan, chairman of the National Committee and of the Jury for the UN Decade in Germany. “The jury voted for the project because it explains how people can operate on a sustainable basis in a way we can understand.”       Read More

German National Tourism Board to Bring Social Travel Summit to Leipzig

Social media marketing (SMM) is becoming increasingly important for the travel industry. According to a recent study by Google, 85 percent of all travelers are already researching their destinations online. As such, the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) is bringing the first Social Travel Summit to Leipzig on April 15 and 16, 2014. The event is being run by blogger and media network ‘iambassador’ in partnership with the Reiseblogger Kollektiv. Germany ranked as leading European conference destination: 2nd place worldwide

Germany has once again been confirmed as a top conference and meeting destination. For the ninth consecutive year, the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA) has ranked Germany as the leading European conference location for international associations. At the same time, Germany has also maintained its outstanding second place globally, behind only the USA.   The ICCA’s figures show that a total of 649 international association conferences were hosted in Germany, 72 more than in the previous year. This impressive total narrows the gap with the USA, which remains out in front with 833 conferences.
