London’s Top New Event Venues to be Promoted at The Meetings Show

The Meetings Show will run this week in London from July 8 to 10 at the Olympia Conference Centre. The city’s tourism board, London & Partners, will be on-hand, and will also be promoting some notable new event venues that have recently opened or are due to debut in the coming months. At the Roundhouse in Camden, a  rooftop garden complete with trees, sun loungers, sofas and even a swimming pool will welcome guests throughout July and August. The venue has space for 120 people overlooking the venue’s popular ‘Camden Beach’ and views out across the London skyline, and is a good pick for summer parties and events. The Chiltern Firehouse in Marylebone is now available for room reservations. The historic building has been recently restored with 26 bedrooms that have 270 degree views of Marylebone and the city beyond. Little information has been released about the venue and bookings can only be made by email or phone.       Near Barbican, The Brewery has turned the venue’s 18th century cobbled courtyard into a secret garden in the City of London neighborhood. Philippines capital set to boom as a meetings and incentives destination     By Maida Pineda 26 May 2014 For years, event planners had to contend with the same facilities for business events in Manila. However, as the Philippine economy grows, Metro Manila is levelling up with new venues for business events. Expect more than the tourism board’s slogan of fun in the Philippines. The number of hotel rooms in Metro Manila is soaring and set to reach a 26-year high in the next three years.     Colliers International analyst Romeo Arahan says an average of 4,300 rooms are expected to be delivered annually from this year until 2016, making it the highest number of units completed since 1988.     Local and foreign developers are on a roll to meet the growing demand for hotel rooms, in line with the government’s target of 10 million foreign tourist arrivals by 2016. How agencies can create a dramatic edge to hospitality As pre-event cocktails and after-show parties are increasingly becoming a fixture of corporate hospitality live performances, digital technology helps make the evenign even more memorable for attendees. “Clients want to be hip and not boring and need something to ‘wow’ people,” says Elaine Ng, senior project manager at MCI in Hong Kong.     For a live showcase staged with an international lifestyle brand in Hong Kong, MCI delivered a range of experiences including a parkour obstacle course, BMX biking and projections on a 20m-tall wall on which people could use spray paint.     Using 3-D mapping technology with five projectors, images by a local graffiti artist were projected onto the wall. Patrons were provided with glow-in-the-dark paint to add their artistic input to the projections. While plenty of hotels have internal corporate social responsibility platforms, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts is trying to get its corporate guests involved in worthwhile causes as well: The company’s Meetings That Matter program lets event planners booking a meeting of 50 room nights or more donate 10 percent of the room revenue generated by the event to the charity of their choice.           Groups supporting the arts, fighting HIV/AIDS and helping children with disabilities have been popular beneficiaries of this incentive, which has been available at Fairmont hotels for several years. If the event attendees want to get physically involved, they can volunteer to clean up waterways, help local school children or support local craftspeople. GBTA Report: US Business Travel Spending to Increase in 2014

U.S. spending on international outbound business travel should jump a hefty 12.5 percent in 2014 to $36.7 billion, after just 1.8 percent growth in 2013 and only 0.8 percent expansion in 2012. This revival will be helped in particular by steady improvements in the Euro-zone, the U.S.’s largest trading partner.
