Australia: Incentive groups flock to Cairns region

Tropical North Queensland has seen a steep increase in the number of incentive groups, with 116 organisers choosing the Cairns and Great Barrier Reef region as the destination to reward top-performing employees in 2012-2013, an increase of 50 per cent.   Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef director Rosie Douglas said the latest Queensland Business Events Survey figures showed the lucrative incentive market was up from 78 groups the previous year.   “We experienced an overall increase in international business events delegates up from 10,075 to 11,068 and this growth was largely driven by international incentive groups,” she said.   Lire la Suite

Queensland’s capital shows it is ready to host the G20 World Leader’s Summit   The river city of Brisbane has many attractions as a place to live, with its sub-tropical climate perfect for year-round alfresco dining, vibrant culinary and art scene, and relaxed lifestyle. But many were surprised when the city won the bid for the G20 World Leaders’ Summit in 2014, with an expected attendance of 7,000. Former prime minister Julia Gillard cited Brisbane’s world-class facilities and infrastructure – namely the newly expanded Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) and Brisbane airport – as major factors in the selection processes. The airport is well-equipped to deal with the arrival of many world leaders in a short time.   Anticipating a rise in annual passenger traffic to 51 million in 2030 from its current 19 million, the airport has started work on a second runway. According to the Brisbane Airport Corporation, once operational in 2020, it will give Brisbane the same capacity as Singapore and Hong Kong’s airports. Brisbane is not new to hosting large international events. In 2003, the city welcomed 15,000 delegates to the Rotary International Convention, and last year’s 34th International Geological Congress attracted more than 6,000 delegates.   Read […]

Les parcs à thèmes du groupe de médias australien Village Roadshow Limited ont réalisé de bonnes performances lors de l’exercice fiscal 2013* avec un chiffre d’affaires global de 298,3 millions de dollars australien (environ 200,5 millions d’euro) et un EBITDA de 89,3 millions de dollars australiens, en hausse respectivement de 7 % et de 2,3 % comparé à l’année précédente.   Scindées en deux, avec une division australienne englobant les parcs de la Gold Coast** et une division nord-américaine comprenant les parcs aquatiques Wet’n’Wild***, les activités mondiales de Village Roadshow Theme Parks ont signé, lors de cet exercice, un résultat opérationnel de 30,5 millions de dollars australiens, en hausse de 2 % par rapport à 2012. Le bénéfice de la division australienne (31,2 millions) a été impacté négativement par une légère perte opérationnelle de -0,7 millions de la division américaine, conséquence d’une charge exceptionnelle de 2 millions de dollars inhérente aux frais de pré-ouverture du nouveau Wet’n’Wild Las Vegas, une propriété dont Village Roadshow est l’exploitant ainsi que le détenteur de 51 % des parts.   Lire la suite
