IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific Kicks Off in Bangkok

The annual IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific expo kicked off in Bangkok on Tuesday, with 122 new exhibiting businesses at the showcase, many of them new companies coming in under the various CVB and national pavilions. New participating countries include Jordan, India and New Zealand. Japan’s private MICE sector has also chosen IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific to stage a strong comeback to the MICE scene. To help position the destination to international buyers, event organizers have clustered all participating Japanese exhibitors on the show floor. Similarly, Singapore is represented by 15 private sector organisations, 10 of which have been clustered into a dedicated Singapore pavilion to promote the destination. WTTC: Asia Travel Industry to Grow 6 Percent Per Year

Of the 70 million new jobs travel and tourism will stimulate globally by 2023, two thirds – some 47 million – will be in Asia, the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) President David Scowsill said at the opening of the WTTC Summit in Korea. Asia’s travel and tourism sectors is forecast to grow six percent per year over the coming decade, Scowsill said. “This phenomenal growth will be driven by increasing wealth among Asia’s middle classes, particularly in China. The United Nations describe it as a historic shift, the likes of which has not been seen for 150 years. Asia’s middle class is forecast to triple to 1.7 billion by 2020,” Scowsill said. The two-day Summit, which featured a keynote address by former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, is focused on how to best exploit the huge projected growth in tourism throughout China, Korea and the wider Pacific region, while urging developed Western nations not to miss out by introducing taxes which will lose more money than they generate. GBTA Report: Brazil to Surpass France, Italy & South Korea in Business Travel Spend

Brazil is expected to surpass South Korea, France and Italy in the business travel global spending rankings, according to the Global Business Travel Association, which just released its latest GBTA BTI Outlook report on Brazil as part of its semi-annual series. Key highlights of the GBTA BTI include: – GBTA BTI has downgraded its near-term outlook for Brazilian business travel as forecasted in the first half of 2013 due to experienced volatility as a result of slower than expected, but still robust economic growth at home and abroad, particularly through June 2013. – However, Brazilian total business travel spending is forecasted to grow 6.3 percent in 2013 to $31.8 billion and another 12.6 percent in 2014 to $35.8 billion, as the global economy gains momentum along with Brazilian domestic demand. – The weaker external environment and the subsequent drop-off in trade with Europe and the U.S. have hit Brazilian international outbound business travel spending particularly hard. Emerging markets visiting China

Emerging markets are beginning to dominate China’s inbound tourism, according to new research. The National Tourism Administration revealed inbound tourists from emerging markets surged year on year in July 2013, while visitors from developed countries declined, China Daily reported. Visitors from Vietnam (+13.86 percent), Thailand (+11.29 percent), India (+10.78 percent) and Mexico (+6.42 percent) grew year-on-year for July 2013. Read More
