From February 11th to 21st, 2015 took place the Qasr al Hosn festival in Abu Dhabi. For this very special festival, one of the most important one in Abu Dhabi, our SHADOW MOTION team created a unique shadow show. The show wasd called “Elements of Abu Dhabi“. As the festival described it: Through the medium of shadow, a group of skilled performers create a captivating show that represents the landscape and stories of Abu Dhabi: Desert, Sea and Oasis. Inspired by Emirati culture, atmospheric projections, a mood-driven soundscape and spoken word poetry unite to create a rhythmic canvas to project an expressive story of heritage. As last year, the city of Abu Dhabi asked Franco Dragone for a show, Talents & Productions is proud to have worked on one of the most important show with his great shadow team: SHADOW MOTION. Middle East: Record five-month performance for Abu Dhabi’s hotel sector

The number of guests checking into Abu Dhabi’s 155 hotels and hotel apartments reached a record high for the five months from January to May this year, with occupancy levels registering an eight percent rise over the same period in 2013 to touch 78 percent. In terms of number, the emirate’s hospitality sector welcomed 1,435,932 guests in the first five months of this year, statistics released by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) show. The figure is a 30 percent increase over the corresponding period in 2013. The January-May guest tally translated into 4,375,395 guest nights, which was up 22 percent year-on-year. Hotel revenues rose 14 percent to AED2.6billion (USD728.6 million) with food and beverage income climbing 12 percent to just over AED1 billion (USD277.6 million). “Overall, the performance makes for good reading though there are two areas of concern – the average length of stay and the average room rate, both of which have dipped on 2013,” said Jasem Al Darmaki, Deputy Director General, TCA Abu Dhabi. The industry standard figures from international data analyst STR Global tell the story: average daily rates for hotels in Abu Dhabi have nearly halved in five years, down from AED1,042 in 2009 to AED546 last year, with RevPAR reflecting this trend, sinking from AED718 to AED368 in the sam period. In Dubai, despite a decine in performance in 2010/11, recent figures show average daily rates topped AED900 last year and RevPAR at AED722. With average occupancy at 79.8 percent in Dubai compared to 67.4 percent in Abu Dhabi in 2013, event organisers might be forgiven for thinking it was a buyers’ market in the UAE capital. However, as always, the devil is in the detail. Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, is beginning to make its mark as a genuine global meetings centre. In 2012, Abu Dhabi was named among the top 100 busiest global meetings destinations by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), marking both the first time the city had entered the top 100 and a meteoric climb of 134 places in the global city rankings from 234th the previous year. With 22 association meetings that year, Abu Dhabi was able to move above the likes of Cologne and even Las Vegas and settle alongside Atlanta, Brasilia and Perth. The clearly stated ambitions from Abu Dhabi’s Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) to develop a world-class environment for meetings, conferences and exhibitions were beginning to pay off, with Jasem Al Darmaki, TCA Abu Dhabi’s Deputy Director General, stating that the rise was an “endorsement of Abu Dhabi’s credentials as a recognised destination for the industry”. Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island Attracts Chinese, European Markets

Yas Island, home to the Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix, has hit turbo for corporate meetings and incentives as its profile and facilities are attracting both the Chinese and European outbound markets. At last month’s Gulf Incentive Business Travel & Meetings show (GIBTM), held in Abu Dhabi, Director of Yas Island Destination Management Clive Dwyer was on hand to share his insights on the emirate and what it has to offer. “Where you meet is where you stay is where you play,” Dwyer said of the emirate’s venues, which can range from golf clubs to nightclubs to theme parks to Ferrari World and the F1 racetrack, as well as more than 600 meeting spaces. A 230,000-square-meter shopping mall is scheduled to open immediately prior to the next Grand Prix in November. The lure generated by the Formula One connection is driving the Chinese incentive market, and the European market is showing strong demand as incentives and wider group meetings return. Our international entertainment agency, Talents & Productions, just spent more than a week at the Abu Dhabi Ferrari world. Ferrari World is a Ferrari themed amusement park on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The central park is situated under a 200,000 m2 roof making it the largest indoor amusement park in the world. We had our OPERA SINGERS to walk around and entertain people inside the park for more than 10 days. Their performance received a huge sucess. Thanks to them and to the organizers.

UAE to host largest ever incentive group

Dubai and Abu Dhabi are to welcome 14,500 delegates of Nu Skin Enterprises from China next week – the largest incentive group in UAE history. The incentive group, which will arrive in seven waves, will make use of numerous chartered and commercial Emirates flights to travel from various cities in China. The Meydan in Dubai will host the group’s training programmes, along with two gala dinners for 7,000 people each at the Meydan Events Arena, near Bal Al Shams. Dubai’s Paramount to build hotels, theme parks in Italy

Paramount Hotels & Resorts, the Dubai-based company with the licensing rights for properties using the Hollywood producer’s brand, has signed an agreement to develop hotels and theme parks in Italy. The company signed a memorandum of understanding with Italian firms Alpha Tours and Grand Hotel Via Vento during a ceremony in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta also visited the UAE to support the agreement, which the firms said would help boost the real estate and tourism sectors in Italy. Read More

The lay of the land for business events in the region Abu Dhabi Theme park managers like to establish their properties with the leisure market before dipping their toes into the corporate events market – and Yas Waterworld (below right) is no exception. After opening earlier this year, the 15-hectare site with funfair-type rides, surf schools and other attractions can now be booked out for corporate or association gatherings. ‘Pearlmaster’ teambuilding programmes can be arranged based on the UAE’s pearl-diving heritage. The venue is among the offerings on Yas Island, which also include several hotels in the vicinity and located alongside the F1 Yas Marina Circuit (main image).
