Middle East: Excitement builds ahead of GIBTM 2014 as business booms

The Gulf Incentives, Business, Travel and Meetings (GIBTM) exhibition is returning to Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from March 24 to 26, 2014 with an expanded remit and enhanced calendar of business networking opportunities.   According to Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), host of the recent International Association of Professional Congress Organisers (IAPCO) council meeting, the meetings and incentives sector is an increasingly important economic contributor that currently generates US$653 million (AED2.4 billion) each year for the emirate. This figure is set to grow by seven percent annually to reach US$1.39 billion (AED5.1 billion) by 2020.   The region is also in line to reap the economic benefits of a share of an estimated US$5.6 billion (AED20.6 billion) worth of global business, with IAPCO’s extended member base responsible for organising more than 6,500 meetings each year and accommodating some 2.5 million delegates.   Read More

Middle East: Abu Dhabi Hosts Biggest GCC ‘Fam’ Trip

Abu Dhabi has hosted its biggest GCC familiarisation trip to date in a bid to further boost intraregional tourism to the emirate.   Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) recently partnered with various stakeholders to host more than 50 leading Gulf-based tour operators, DMCs and travel professionals to show them the potential of the emirate as a meetings, business and leisure destination. World’s Top Tour Operators In Abu Dhabi For Grand Prix

Twenty of the world’s top tour operators are in Abu Dhabi as part of an intensive campaign to woo them over to the emirate.   The operators – from Italy, the USA, France, UK, China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Germany, India and Australia – are being hosted in the emirate by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), which is looking to build next year’s hotel guest arrivals to over the 2.8 million mark – up from this year’s expected 2.5 million.   “These are powerful decision makers within the travel and tourism sector and we want them to fully understand the sheer breadth of our expanded destination offering which has grown exponentially over the past 18 months and is now a vibrant leisure proposition for a diverse target market,” said HE Jasem Al Darmaki, Deputy Director General, TCA Abu Dhabi.   The tour operators are on a five-day destination familiarisation tour of the emirate before joining TCA leaders for the 2013 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 3.   “We are leveraging the emirate’s headline event to demonstrate clearly to the tour operators the destination’s assets and attractions and major events credentials,” added Al […]
