Winning bid reaffirms the city as a key financial hub in Australia
Sydney has been chosen to host the high-profile financial conference Sibos in 2018.
Organised by Swift, Sibos is an annual, week-long event that brings thousands of decision makers and professionals from financial institutions, technology companies and more. This year’s Sibos will be held in Boston from September 29 to October 2. The event was last held in Asia Pacific in 2012, when it went to Osaka, Japan.
“Sibos is a highly sought after international event that draws the world’s banking and finance elite together and drives the future of the global industry,” says Mike Baird, NSW Premier. “This is a major coup for Sydney and for our local sector.
Sydney is a key financial hub in Australia and the bidding, led by Business Events Sydney, included stakeholders the city’s finance industry and International Convention Centre Sydney that is due to open in December 2016.
Says Baird, “There is perhaps no event that better aligns with NSW’s competitive strengths and future direction than Sibos. The NSW Government has identified financial services as an area of strength and opportunity and has made a commitment to invest in developing the growth of the professional services sector, and others.
