Forbes Middle East has released its long awaited line up of the world’s top 100 richest Arabs. The April issue of Forbes Middle East, which also highlight’s FORBES’ renowned list of global billionaires, showcases an impressive list of billionaires and multi-millionaires hailing from 13 countries across the Arab world. Combined, their fortunes amount to a huge $166.07 billion. Whether self-made or from families of fortune, each has amassed in excess of $140 million and of the top 100 names, 45 are billionaires—four more than 2013—sharing total wealth of $147.7 billion. Continuing his reign at the top, Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Alsaud takes the number one spot with an estimated $20.4 billion, followed by Lebanese-Brazilian Joseph Safra in second with $16 billion, and Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Al Amoudi in third with a total of $15.3 billion. Dubai Welcomes 14,500 Delegates As UAEs Largest Ever Corporate Incentive Group Arrives

The Dubai Convention and Events Bureau, DCEB, a division of the Department of Commerce and Tourism Marketing (DTCM), is welcoming the first of 14,500 incentive delegates arriving from Nu Skin Enterprises Inc. in China. DCEB won the bid for Dubai to host the Nu Skin incentive mega-group in January 2013, fending off fierce competition from Macau, Seoul and Singapore. The delegation, which represents the largest corporate incentive group in U.A.E. history, are arriving in seven waves, with one wave averaging around 2,000 people arriving every day between Sunday, April 6th and Saturday, April 12th. The last wave will depart the U.A.E. on April 17th, and each wave will be in the U.A.E. for five days. PepsiCo demands higher brand visibility at IPL in UAE

PepsiCo, title sponsor of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has demanded additional rights and visibility for its brands in cricket stadiums from the BCCI. The demand came after the BCCI announced that phase 1 of the IPL will be played in UAE, keeping in mind the impending Lok Sabha elections. It is speculated that by doing so, PepsiCo intends to leverage its brand in UAE, where it dominates three-quarters of the cola market. What’s more, PepsiCo is favoured by many in the Middle-East as a local brand as opposed to Coca-Cola which is perceived as an American brand. In contrast, the beverage major is lagging behind Coca-Cola in the Indian market. The demand has been put forth as a compensation for the possible decline in financial clout that may be caused by the tournament to shift overseas. Jakobsen arrived from Copenhagen where he masterminded the city’s green credentials with his winning bid for Cop 15. GIBTM gets underway in Abu Dhabi

GIBTM, the Gulf Incentive, Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition, kicked off today (24 March) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre with a record number of exhibitors. GIBTM 2014 has a record number of exhibitors – 300 – and has also seen an increase in hosted buyer numbers. There are more than 255 corporate event planners, agencies and associations from 36 countries. The show expects more than 2,000 trade visitors – a year-on-year increase of 10%. The education programme includes a session from Rob Davidson of the University of Greenwich in London, who will present the results of the Middle Eastern Meeting Planners’ Site Selection Survey, which is new research into the factors that are most important to Middle Eastern meeting planners when they are deciding where to locate their events. There are also sessions from industry associations including MPI, ICCA and SITE, covering industry trends, sustainability, issues impacting the corporate travel industry, and the challenges of staging international association meetings.
