Macau To Host Crucial Global Tourism Forum

Chairman and CEO of Wynn Resorts Stephen Wynn will be among a host of key speakers at this year’s annual Global Tourism Economy Forum in Macau. Also speaking at the September 17-19 forum – in the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Centre – will be Shao Qi Wei, Chairman of China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) and Michael Frenzel, Chairman of the World Travel and Tourism Council. They will be joined by Mari Elka Pangestu, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Republic of Indonesia, Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia and Dr. Taleb Rifai, Secretary General of World Tourism Organisation UNWTO. It will be the second consecutive year such a forum has been hosted in the former Portuguese enclave with more than 1000 delegates from 34 cities around the world to attend last year’s inaugural event. Intercontinental to open ‘cave’ hotel in China

A £345m conference hotel is being built in a quarry near Shangahi with two of its 19 storeys underwater. The two underwater floors will have an aquarium with glass walls that look out onto an underwater restaurant and the other 17 storeys will be built inside a cave at the base of the Tianmensham Mountain in the Songjiang District. Guests at the Intercontinental Shimao hotel will be able to do watersports on the lake and use the cliffs for rock-climbing and bungee jumping. The resort is expected to open in 2015 with 380 rooms, banqueting and conference rooms, as well as a swimming pool and sports centre. Rooms are expected to start from £200 a night. Starwood plans major expansion into China

Starwood has more than 100 hotel openings in the pipeline, which is in addition to 120 properties that are already open in China, making it the company’s second largest hotel market behind the US. Morgan Stanley postpones Shanghai event due to bird flu

Morgan Stanley has moved an investor event to New York in July due China’s bird flu outbreak earlier this year. The annual forum was due to be held last week, from 21-23 May, for managers to showcase Asian hedge funds to investors, according to Bloomberg. However, following health concerns over an outbreak of aviation flu in China earlier this year, some investors and managers declined to travel to Shanghai. World’s largest ocean expo to open in NE China

The 2013 World Landscape Art Exposition will hold its opening ceremony on May 10 on redeveloped salt marshes in Jinzhou, Liaoning Province. It is the first world horticultural exposition to be held on the marshes since the completion of reconstruction and redevelopment work. The theme of the expo is “the city and the sea, a future in harmony.” “Jinzhou is a central city in western Liaoning, and we hope to attract more attention by holding a large expo like this, showing the charming of our city,” said Wang Guangming, secretary of Jinzhou Municipal Party Committee on Wednesday at a press conference. “After all, we want to develop our coastal economic zone by opening the door of Jinzhou.” He said. Michael Jackson IMMORTAL tour comes to China

AEG China announced today that the blockbuster show Michael Jackson “THE IMMORTAL World Tour” will come to Shanghai and Hong Kong in August 2013. The event’s promoter posted a short message on their micro blog, saying: “The globally acclaimed Michael Jackson “THE IMMORTAL World Tour” will land on China! The show is produced by Cirque du Soleil, and is a riveting fusion of 3D visuals, dance, music, and fantasy and will take you into the story of the greatest entertainer of the 20th century.” AEG said that there will be five shows in Shanghai from August 15-18, and then the tour will land in Hong Kong to perform August 22-25.
